Family Income and Expenditures
Based on the 2000 Family Income and Expenditures Survey, the total family income of about 42 thousand families in the province was P3.6 billion, giving an average income per family of P84.8 thousand. Its total family expenditure for the same year was P3.2 billion or a mean expenditure of P74.3 thousand. Most families had an annual income between P40,000-59,999.
Main Source of Income
Most families in the province, comprising 37.33 percent, derived their income mainly from other sources of income such as gifts, cash receipts or assistance from abroad and other sources of income not elsewhere classified; 35.32 percent from wages and salaries; and the remaining 27.44 percent from entrepreneurial activities.
In 2000, the three leading expenditure items were food, rent/rental value of occupied dwelling units and fuel, light and water. Food comprised 54.0 percent of the total family expenditures.
Consumer Price Index
In 2008, consumer price index of the province for all items was recorded at 150.7 index points. Food items had higher CPI than non-food items, with 158.7 index points and 140.7 index points, respectively.
